The Club Leaders' Association was formed in 1938 under the auspices of the National Council of Girls' Clubs for its leaders. Later accepting male members as well, it was renamed the Youth Leaders' Association in 1940 and the National Association of Youth Leaders and Organisers (NAYLO) at a special conference in Birmingham on 21 September 1946. It amalgamated with the National Association of Local Education Authority Youth Leaders in 1963 to form the Youth Service Association.
