The Society of British Gas Industries was formally established in 1906, following the work of the Provisional Committee in the previous year. The Society was a trade association of manufacturers of gas appliances and equipment and of contractors to the gas industry. It aimed to be representative and promote the interests of the entire gas industry in the United Kingdom . It moved its headquarters to Leamington Spa in 1974. The Society worked closely with government departments and regulatory bodies within the gas industry. It was a member of various European bodies and was involved with export missions to countries such as Spain, India and Poland.
