  • The collection includes correspondence, newsletters, press releases and ephemera. MSS.161A was deposited in 1977 and comprises of the STAG policy statement, press releases, booklets and ephemera. MSS161B was received the following year and consists of reports of meetings, newsletters, leaflets and an aerial photograph of the terminal.

  • The Stansted Airport Action Group (STAG) was an independent body of airport personnel united to ensure the future of Stansted (in Essex) as a major regional airport. The group was formed in 1975 following the controversy over Stansted's proposed role as London's third airport. Reference: G. Wootton, 'Pressure Politics in Contemporary Britain' (Lexington, 1978); P.Hall, 'Great Planning Disasters' (London, 1980).

  • A further small group of material on the Stansted issue, 1978-80, presented by a researcher, is held at reference MSS.21/1501. Essex Record Office, Southend Branch, holds records from the Commission on the Third London Airport Essex c1967-79. Essex University Library holds a substantial collection of papers relating to the campaign against the Third London Airport. A small group, mainly relating to the North-West Essex and East Herts. Preservation Association, from a private collection, may be consulted via the Modern records Centre.
