Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) and related matters, 1980-2007
1980-2007
Section
These records relate both to the work of CoRWM itself and to activities before its formation, all of which ultimately arose from the consultation paper 'Managing radioactive waste safely' issued by the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the environment departments for the devolved administrations in September 2001.
Wilkinson Environmental Consulting Limited was commissioned to undertake the 'information needs research project' on waste management options. In Janurary 2003 the resulting report, 'Identification of information needed to decide with confidence on the long-term management of options for long-lived radioactive waste', was published.
CoRWM, of which Wilkinson was a member, was established in November 2003 as an independent body to recommend to the UK government a strategy for the long-term management of solid radioactive waste. In June 2006 it published 'Managing our radioactive waste safely - CoRWM's recommendations to Government' (see 989/7/4/95) and it was disbanded in August 2007.
