  • Peter Wilkinson (often known as 'Pete' or 'Wilx') was born on 21 November 1946. Between 1971 and and 1975 he worked for Friends of the Earth, particularly on campaigns relating to energy issues and liaison with trade unions. He then held the following roles with Greenpeace UK : director, 1978-1989, campaigns director, 1982-1989, chairman, 1980-1982. For Greenpeace International he was nuclear/energy campaigner, 1978-1986, and director, 1981-1983. He also led or advised Greenpeace Antarctic expeditions between 1985 and 1992. At Greenpeace he oversaw successful campaigns against the dumping of radioactive waste at sea and for a 50-year ban on mining in Antarctica. As a consultant he focussed on building links between environmental organisations and businesses. He became a partner in WBMG Environmental Communications and a director of Wilkinson Environmental Consulting Limited. He was also involved in a number of other environmental organisations, projects and consultations, particularly relating to nuclear energy. He was also a prolific public speaker, author and broadcaster on environmental issues. In 1994 his memoir of his work with Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace, 'Warrior - one man's environmental crusade', was published by the Lutterworth Press (see 989/1/35-37).
