The Amalgamated Association of Cotton Spinners, etc. of Lancashire and Adjoining Counties was flourishing in 1883 and adopted the title of Amalgamated Association of Operative Cotton Spinners and Twiners in 1915. It was a federation of independent local societies, each having rules of its own, with full power over its funds and benefits.
Papers of the Amalgamated Association of Operative Cotton Spinners and Twiners, 1878-1977 are located at Manchester University: John Rylands Library and papers for 1874-1912 are located at Manchester Archives and Local Studies. Other papers relating to the cotton textile industry are located in the Modern Records Centre in the papers of the Transport and General Workers Union (MSS.126/TG).
