The Amalgamated Association of Cotton Spinners, etc. of Lancashire and Adjoining Counties was flourishing in 1883 and adopted the title of Amalgamated Association of Operative Cotton Spinners and Twiners in 1915. It was a federation of independent local societies, each having rules of its own, with full power over its funds and benefits.

Other papers relating to the cotton textile industry are located in the Modern Records Centre in the papers of the Transport and General Workers Union (MSS.126/TG).
