  • ┆This film was made by the Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft (DEFA), which was effectively an agency of the East German government and whose successor is the DEFA Foundation ([http://www.defa-stiftung.de/defa-stiftung-home](http://www.defa-stiftung.de/defa-stiftung-home)).  One of the main themes of the festival was solidarity with those fighting "imperialism" in Vietnam, Palestine, Chile and elsewhere. Features parades, music, dancing, a visit to the memorial at the Buchenwald concentration camp, and a tribute ceremony to Soviet soldiers killed "liberating Europe from Fascism".
