The Office Machinery Users' Association was established in 1915 by Professor Lawrence R. Dicksee, an accountant and university lecturer, as a forum for the exchange of experience and ideas on the use of office equipment and systems. In 1935 it changed its name to the Office Management Association after an agreement with an earlier association of the same name (founded in 1932), which it thereupon absorbed. Further name changes occurred in 1960 to the Institute of Office Management, and in 1972 to the Institute of Administrative Management.
The IAM went into liquidation in Dec 2013 but after being purchased by Industry Qualifications, it was re-launched in July 2014.

This collection has been weeded for duplicates.
Since many of the series of records are complete chronological runs, the Institute of Administrative Management and its related bodies have been catalogued as one collection. The reference codes of these records were determined by a superseded catalogue arrangement. The codes are therefore not necessarily in order in the catalogue.
A ten year closure period applies to the collection, except publications.

The Centre also holds papers of Mr Brian Wood as a member of the Institute of Administrative Management council and Manchester/North West branch
