The Rev. Silas Kitto Hocking (1850-1935) spent twenty-six years in the ministry of the United Methodist Free Church, before devoting himself full-time to writing novels, journalism, lecturing and political activity. Recurrent themes within his work, particularly his sermons, include temperance and other social questions, business morality and the well-being of children.
Three manuscripts by Silas K. Hocking - 'His Father: a story for children of all ages', 'Reedyford' and 'Tregeagle’s head' - are included in the Dunn Collection, Blackburn Central Library (access by appointment only).
