  • The National Amalgamated Union of Enginemen, Cranemen, Hammer Drivers and Boiler Firemen of Great Britain was founded in 1895. At some time after June 1900 it changed its name to the National Amalgamated Union of Enginemen, Cranemen, Hammer, Steam and Electric Tram Drivers and Boiler Firemen of Great Britain. From 1902 it was always known as the National Amalgamated Union of Enginemen of Great Britain. At some point after September 1906 the Lancashire Enginemen's, Cranemen's and Firemen's, Electrical and Hydraulic Attendants' Association merged with it and it was renamed the National Amalgamated Union of Enginemen, Firemen, Mechanics and Electrical Workers. In 1914 it was renamed the National Amalgamated Union of Enginemen, Firemen, Mechanics, Motormen and Electrical Workers. It absorbed the Northern United Enginemen's Association in 1921. By 1925 it had become the only union catering for such workers, all the local associations having disappeared. It amalgamated with the Transport and General Workers' Union in 1926 to become the Power Workers' Group of the TGWU, although it retained its separate identity and continued to use its name until 1967. In 1959 it was renamed the National Union of Enginemen, Firemen, Mechanics and Electrical Workers.
