Christopher Mayhew (1915-1997), later Baron Mayhew of Wimbledon, was Labour Member of Parliament for Woolwich East between 1951-1974 and a strong critic of Israeli policies and Zionism.
Edelman (in an article for 'The Jewish Chronicle' on 12 Jul 1968, entitled 'Danger from the Left') accused Mayhew of making anti-semitic comments whilst on the television programme 'Your witness' on 15 Jun 1968, Mayhew sued and received a public apology in the High Court. His argument was that, whilst his comments were anti-Zionist, they were not anti-semitic.
