The material derives from research undertaken in 1984 by Josie Castle of the University of Wollongong into the experiences of women workers at Courtaulds and GEC in Coventry, 1920-40. Eight women were interviewed or replied by letter.
The interviews formed part of an integrated survey into women's work in Coventry factories between the two world wars. They formed the basis of Mrs Castle's chapter published in 1986 in Bill Lancaster & Tony Mason, eds., 'Life & labour in a twentieth century city: the experience of coventry'(Cryfield press, n.d.).
Mrs Castle's permission must be sought for the publication of information derived from the interviews. Her e-mail address is josie@uow.edu.au.
