The BASW Trust was a charity established by BASW in early 1988. Its functions were:
"i) to promote the education and training of social workers for the benefit of the public;
ii) to relieve poverty and its effects;
iii) to promote the education of the public in matters of social policy, social organisation and social problems."
Many of its committees duplicated those of BASW and in most cases they had the same membership. It generally dealt with issues which were not specific to BASW members, although being a charity it could not take part in campaigning or political lobbying, which remained the responsibility of BASW.
