Meetings of the Shadow Public Relations & Social Policy Divisional Committee were held on 9 July and 17 September 1979, and the new Public Relations and Social Policy Divisional Committee first met on 2 November 1979, effectively replacing the old Parliamentary, Public Relations and Social Policy Committee. By October 1981 it had become the Social Policy and Public Relations Divisional Committee, and by January 1987 the Social Policy Divisional Committee. Following its amalgamation with the Professional Practice Divisional Committee the new Social Policy Divisional Committee first met on 19 October 1988.
