Christopher Andrews (born 1937) succeeded Kenneth Brill as General Secretary in 1974 and served until December 1980, being succeeded by John Cypher in March 1981. He graduated MA in History from Cambridge and obtained a Certificate in Social Administration from the University of Liverpool in 1962 and a Home Office Letter of Recognition in Residential Work with Children and Young Persons from the University of Bristol in 1971. He worked in Liverpool and Northamptonshire before becoming a Senior Social Worker in Birmingham specialising in intermediate treatment. Formerly a member of the Association of Child Care Officers, he became secretary of BASW's Birmingham Branch and was elected to Council as Regional Representative for the West Midlands in 1973. He then briefly served as Assistant General Secretary.
