The first meeting of this Working Party took place on 20 June 1978. Its terms of reference included the identification and description of particular problems experienced by ethnic and racial minorities to which social work intervention could be appropriately addressed, the provision of specific guidance in relation to particular minority groups in the light of possible comparisons with other countries, and the consideration of the implications of this work for social work education and training. The Working Party was to report to the Professional Development and Practice Committee. A Project Group with the same title and many of the same members was in operation on 25 October 1979, but there is no direct reference to the replacement of the one by the other.
