Mike Gonzalez, 'Nicaragua: What Went Wrong?', 1990
MSS.348/2/41
1990
Item
First draft, changes by Mike Gonzalez, text of article 'Nicaragua Libre After Ten Years' by Sabby Sagall.
"This typescript / MS is in the archive because to my mind it best exemplifies the political co-operation of author and editor. In February 1990 the Sandinista govt of Nicaragua was defeated by the right in an election. Mike Gonzalez gave a talk, prepared at 24 hours notice, to an international meeting in London. This was recorded and transcribed by Peter Marsden, Bookmarks editor, who then edited together this transcript, Mike's article in that week's Socialist Worker, and chapters from an earlier book, and other writings, to produce a first draft. This was then amended by Mike Gonzalez and went to the printers 3 weeks after the election defeat. The book was published 3 weeks later" [Peter Marsden].
