Miscellaneous items relating to John I. Thornycroft & Co. Ltd. This firm of steam launch producers developed a motor vehicle range from 1896. In 1898 a new factory for vehicle manufacture was built at Basingstoke. In 1961 vehicle-building interests were acquired by AEC and Thornycroft concentrated on specialist vehicle production. After the Basingstoke works were sold in 1969 vehicle production was continued by Scammell at Watford. On the closure of Scammell at the end of 1989 Unipower acquired manufacturing right of some models.
