The Club of York was founded at the University of Sussex Second International Seminar Held at York in April 1978 to promote the use of operational research in the creation of wealth through improved industrial planning. In 1983 it was renamed the Club of Warwick because of its links to the University of Warwick School of Industrial and Business Studies. It also had a close relationship with the Operational Research Society.
