The National Union of Scientific Workers was founded in 1918; it changed its name to the Association of Scientific Workers in 1927. In 1968 the union amalgamated with the Association of Supervisory Staffs, Executives and Technicians to form the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs.
