Press releases*, public statements, publications and similar documents relating to particular countries. Some of the publications held are available in print-out form only rather than finished format and are described as draft copies. The papers are arranged by geographical area, according to a system devised by Amnesty International. A country code is made up of a three letter abbreviation for the region, followed by a number to identify the particular country within the region. This makes it possible to file and retrieve documents according to the country or region they deal with. There are five of these regional abbreviations in the AI Index system:
AFR - AFRICA (except North Africa)
AMR - AMERICAS
ASA - ASIA AND THE PACIFIC
EUR - EUROPE
MDE - MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA
