Founded in 1903 as the Association of Established Sub-Postmasters, the union became the Association of Salaried Sub-Postmasters in 1920, the Association of Sub-Office Postmasters in 1929 and ultimately the Postmasters' Association in 1937. The Association amalgamated with the Association of Postal Controllers and Assistant Controllers and the Association of Head Postmasters in 1972 to form the Senior Postal Staff Association.
