  • The Lancashire Steam Motor Company was formed in Leyland in 1896 and renamed Leyland Motors in 1907. The company acquired various companies over the post-Second World War period, including Albion Motors (1951), Scammell Lorries Ltd. (1955), Standard-Triumph International Group (1961), Associated Commercial Vehicles (1962), Rover Company Ltd (1967) and Aveling-Barford Ltd (1968). In 1968 the Leyland Motor Corporation Ltd merged with British Motor Holdings Limited to form the British Leyland Motor Corporation.
