On 15 June 1974 a demonstration in London against the National Front organised by the London and Home Counties Area Council of Liberation led to disorder in Red Lion Square, during which a Warwick University student, Kevin Gately, sustained injuries of which he later died. Subsequently, the students' union at Warwick University set up an action committee in his name to inquire into the causes of his death and to continue the fight against fascism. The committee continued until the autumn of 1974 when it was decided to concentrate efforts within other organisations.

The Centre also holds records of Cecil Angel and Company, solicitors of Coventry, relating to the public inquiry into the disorder at Red Lion Square.
