  • Subjects on side 1 include (transcript page numbers given in brackets): restarting of the ‘Vanguard’ by John Maclean in 1920 (3); campaigning with Maclean and others on unemployment and Irish independence (4-5); formation and financing of the Tramp Trust (5-6); raising money for the imprisoned Maclean (6); organising mass meetings and processions and selling Maclean’s publications (6-8). Subjects on side 2 include: movement to shorten working week at end of First World War in response to anticipated rise in unemployment on demobilisation of forces (1-2); strike in February 1919 for a 40-hour week organised by the a joint committee of the Scottish TUC, the Glasgow Trades Council and the Clyde Workers Committee, including mass meetings and processions, deployment of soldiers after riot by strikers (2-12).
