Iris Brook (nee Benyon) trained as a nurse and midwife first at Tredegar and then at Mile End Hospital in London. She married Dr Charles Brook in 1924. They were both members of the Socialist Medical Association. Between 1936 and 1941 she was the organiser for the nursing section of the National Union of County Officers, later the Guild of Nurses. She later served on the Staff Side of the Nurses and Midwives Whitley Council and was a governor of Guy's Hospital in London from 1948 to 1974.
