The International Affairs Directorate existed from 1965-95 and was known as the Overseas Directorate until 1982. It provided a service to CBI members with overseas interests, monitored Government foreign policy and maintained links with a number of international organisations.
Directors have been John Whitehorn (1965-8), C.L.S. Cope (1968-79), G.C. Mason (1979), H.J. Herbert-Jones (1979-87) and J. Scates (1987-95).
A certain amount of flexibility has been necessary in the arrangement of the files due to the complexity of the organisation and the frequent movement of personnel and portfolios between departments. In general, files have been arranged according to the individual committees, working parties and panels which created them.
