  • After several false starts the inaugural meeting of the Group took place on 15 February 1985. Its terms of reference were being discussed at the Social Policy and Public Relations Divisional Committee on 27 April 1984, when it was seen necessary to examine the general relationship between state, private and voluntary care in the light of the development of private care, the privatisation of personal social services and the need to consider what other types of service might also be considered for privatisation by the then Government. A letter of 10 May 1985 informed members of the Group, that due to other pressures and the Group's lack of material progress, it had been disbanded.
