A memorandum of 1 May 1985 suggested that a small Project Group be convened to formulate ideas and a programme to celebrate the International Social Work Day of Peace on 23 September 1986. The Group met on 20 September 1985. It was decided to hold a Study Day on 16 September 1986 and from 20th February 1986 the meetings were those of the International Year of Peace Study Day Planning Group. The last meeting (of the Project Group) was held on 6 September 1986, but a further memorandum was sent to the Group for comment on 13 November 1986.
