The first meeting of the Joint Working Party on Relations with the European Economic Community (formed from the International Relations Committee and the Parliamentary, Public Relations and Social Policy Committee) took place on 25 February 1974. It became known as the EEC Working Party. Its terms of reference included keeping a watching brief on European Economic Community (EEC) issues, monitoring EEC activities affecting social work and policy, and considering and recommending appropriate action and initiatives by BASW in relation to EEC affairs.
