  • The British Steel Producers' Conference (also known as Number 2 Conference) was formed as a full member of the British Iron and Steel Federation (BISF) in 1945, and was made up of constituent product associations. Previously these associations had enjoyed full membership of the Federation having become affiliated to it soon after it was established in 1934. The BSPC remained in being following the dissolution of the BISF in 1967 and the nationalisation of the steel industry but was dissolved in March 1970.

  • The deposits made in the Centre by British Steel plc also include records of the British Heavy Steel Association and its predecessors and the National Billet Association, both members of the BSPC. The largest part of the deposits is formed by the records of the British Iron and Steel Federation (BISF) and its predecessor, the National Federation of Iron and Steel Manufacturers. The deposits also include records of a number of regional and sectional iron and steel employers' organisations associated with the BISF, the statutory Iron and Steel Board and the nationalised British Steel Corporation.
