This company was established by the BISF to be responsible for all imports of iron ore and manganese ore required by the industry. It also arranged centrally the shipping needed for the industry's ore imports, drawing on a fleet of seventy specially designed ore carriers operating on long-term charters. It was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the British Iron and Steel Corporation Limited, which in turn became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the British Steel Corporation in 1967.
